Vilnius University was established in 1579 in the city of Vilnius by King Stephen Bathory, who transformed the Jesuit college into a higher education institution. It is the oldest and largest university in Lithuania and one of the oldest in Central and Eastern Europe. It is a university with a large and arduous history. Despite the obstacles throughout its existence, the university persevered and never stopped educating future professionals. The university is a highly preferred destination for international students willing to study medicine in English abroad. The Faculty of Medicine offers medicine and dentistry programs, both entirely taught in English. Vilnius University organizes many national and international scientific conferences, seminars, and practicals.
