Stanford University

Jane and Leland Stanford established the Leland Stanford Junior University, now known as Stanford University in 1885 in honour of their only child, Leland Jr., who died of typhoid fever at the age of 15. Following his death in 1884, the Stanfords resolved to put their fortune to good use by helping other people’s children. Stanford is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). The university is also affiliated with the Association of American Universities (AAU), Conceive Design Implement Operate (CDIO) and Space-grant.
